About Me

Getting Your Car Towed Hello! My name is Terry and I would like to provide you with some information and advice about how to get your car towed. When your car is in good working order, you may not often think about getting your car towed. However, if your car breaks down, you will need to call out a towing service who will be able to recover the vehicle. When my car broke down on the road out of Perth, I called a local tow service and they came out and rescued me. I was so pleased to be rescued, I decided to start this blog.

Traditional roadside assistance is a form of insurance. It's a service that is paid for with the hope that it will never have to be used. Of course, everyone's circumstances are different. You might have a comprehensive roadside assistance package and never use it, or you might find that it essentially pays for itself surprisingly quickly. There are a couple of options when it comes to deciding upon the best type of roadside assistance for you (along with a scheme that could be seen in the future).

Pay as You Go

Perhaps you consider yourself to be an extremely safe driver. Perhaps you drive a newer model of car that is less prone to experiencing difficulties. Perhaps you don't use your car all that often. There are many reasons why you might consider roadside assistance to be unnecessary, but it's the sort of service that you can be extremely thankful for if it should ever be needed. Unsurprisingly, advances in technology have resulted in a different type of business model for roadside assistance. There are a number of free apps that act as a form of pay as you go roadside assistance. When activated, GPS locates the nearest applicable service provider, also giving you a list of the cost of the necessary assistance. You can choose a provider and pay via the app. This can be a great option if you are confident that it's highly unlikely you'll ever need roadside assistance.

A Traditional Service

So what about the other side of the coin? You might need to frequently use an older model of car that has been known to have its own eccentricities. Perhaps you use your car for work, and you need to know that any problems can be promptly dealt with in order to get you straight back on the road. For many people, a traditional roadside assistance package is the best option. If it's foreseeable that you could have to utilise the service on a number of occasions, it's immediately going to be more cost effective than any type of pay as you go scheme. There can also be packages that cover all the vehicles and drivers in your household.

An Automatic Service

The future is here…in Europe, anyway. As of April 2018, all new vehicles sold will come with a mandatory eCall system. In the event of an accident or mishap, the eCall system immediately opens up a voice channel to an operator who can dispatch emergency services or roadside assistance as needed. There is something vaguely surreal about this. Just think, you might have a very minor fender bender and then suddenly a voice emanates from your car's speakers to ask if you're OK. If the driver is incapacitated, emergency services are immediately summoned to the scene. There's no word if a similar scheme will ever be introduced in Australia, although it might be that the European model will be under careful observation before other territories make a decision about implementation.

Whether it's a monthly fee or a pay as you go service, roadside assistance can be a godsend. And perhaps one day a voice from your car will simply ask if you need help...
